#capedawnproject – 2years in the making

At the start of this project in October 2018, I knew there would be weeks that I’d miss for various reasons. My commitment would be at best a 2year one but hopefully not more than 3years. It didn’t take long to realise it was an ambitious goal, as lots of things can get in the way – if you let them.

October 4th, 2020 and week 52 completed exactly 2years later. No doubt about it, it was a challenge but one that I have loved every minute of. Being able to enjoy and capture this was a privilege. Sharing this story and images is also about sharing the privilege, we all deserve it.

The “catchup weeks” as they became known were actually the hardest for a few reasons. Firstly, the anxiety as the week got closer, watching the weather reports and praying for at least one not too windy or wet day. Then there was the lack of routine. Getting up early when you are not doing this regularly is not my strong point. Then setting up and taking the images, I was constantly running through check lists in my head, making sure I wasn’t forgetting everything I’d learnt from previous sessions. It goes to show just how important it is to always have your camera with you and to be constantly using it. Especially for us amateur’s, being comfortable with the settings and your camera is key to capturing that perfect shot!

Successful projects are never down to one person and this project was no exception. The support from friends, family and my husband was insurmountable. I know for certain that this would not have happened without them. Thank you all.

For those of you interested in the science – here are the points at which the sun was rising during these weeks.
